Margo’s Journey Through Highs and Lows

Inside
our world

Dear Friends, Family, and Animal Lovers,

My name is Jacki, and I’m sharing the story of my beloved 1 year old Weimaraner/pit mix, Margo, who has brought immeasurable joy and love into my life. Margo is not just a dog; she is family. Her playful spirit, loyal companionship, and the comfort she provides have been a source of strength for me since my partner and I adopted her.

Margo had been in the shelter since January 2024, and we adopted her in September 2024. Unfortunately, Margo was born with a congenital issue that made it difficult for her to go potty. We were advised by the shelter that Margo would need extra love and care, as well as internal medicine doctors to help monitor her throughout her life. We were more than happy to take care of her and give her a loving home. Margo was born with a malformation of her vulva and had surgical correction while in the shelter, but still struggles with frequent UTIs even though she is cleaned and monitored all the time at home.

Recently, Margo had encountered some unexpected health issues that left me feeling overwhelmed and worried. After an internal medicine vet visit, they discovered some serious concerns that require immediate attention. She was seen by a surgery specialist and was diagnosed with atresia ani. Margo needed surgery and ongoing treatments to ensure she can live a happy, healthy life. Unfortunately, the costs associated with her care were more than I could handle on my own.

The vet bills were piling up, and despite my efforts to save, I found myself in a situation where I needed help. The estimated costs for Margo’s ureterogram and scoping, correction of urethral abnormality surgery, follow-up appointments, and medications were around $7,200. This is an amount that, while daunting, was necessary to give Margo the chance she deserves. A GoFundMe was made, and we raised $1,420. The surgery was on January 28th, 2025, and she recovered nicely. Unfortunately, Margo is still experiencing UTI symptoms and has been back and forth from the hospital, primary vet, and urgent care. She will be seen by a urinary tract abnormality specialist with internal medicine on April 17th, 2025. She has been off and on antibiotics trying to combat this UTI and will keep being seen by doctors until we can figure out how to manage her symptoms better.

Every day I see her looking up at me with those big, loving eyes, and it breaks my heart to think of what she’s going through. Margo is always there to greet me after a long day by spinning in circles and giving me a hug, and the thought of her being in pain is something I cannot bear.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your support, whether through donations, shares, or kind words, means more than I can express. Together, we can give Margo the chance for a healthy and happy life that she truly deserves. Please share her story and follow us on Instagram!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Jacki
